ALL ABOUT THE YMR CLUB
WHAT’S IN A NAME? You know the old expression… “Never judge a book by its cover!”
We often get questions surrounding the original name of the YMR Club. Yes, the official name that was established in 1875 as “The Young Men’s Republican Club” when it was started as a book club. After prohibition, the club transitioned into a private members club, but the name has stayed the same over the years. To distance itself from any suggestions of being associated with any political affiliation, the club now goes by the “YMR Club”, and sometime affectionally referred to by some of its members as “The Yammer”. The club is in no way affiliated with any political party. Our members are from diverse backgrounds. The goal of the club is to be open and inclusive to all, regardless of age, sex, religion, political affiliation, race, national origin, orientation, or identity. At the YMR Club, you are welcome just as you are! We are a fun place to gather with friends and have fun as your whole authentic self, with respect for all. Discriminatory or disrespectful behavior is not welcomed nor is it tolerated. Our board expressly works towards supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion! We are all here to enjoy our time together! So if our name has made you question joining or coming in with a member to check us out; be assured that you are welcome at the YMR Club just as you are!
